Friction, Friend or Foe? – Grade Nine
Friction, Friend or Foe? – Grade Nine
Description:
This lesson includes investigations in which students will vary the type of material, weight, surface area, and speed of some sliding objects (e.g., books, wooden blocks) to determine how these factors influence frictional effects on the motion of these objects. Students also identify and evaluate motions (e.g., rollerblading, walking) when the effects of frictional forces are desirable and not desirable. Students demonstrate and analyze ways to reduce the effects of frictional forces.
