Waves – Grade Eight
Waves – Grade Eight
Description:
The purpose of this lesson is to introduce students to three major wave relationships: wave energy transfer related to periodic disturbances; wave energy travel related to the source of energy; and wave characteristics related to the amount of energy transfer. Students will plan and conduct a variety of investigations of these wave relationships throughout the lesson activities. These include conducting controlled investigations to drop objects into water to generate waves, make measurements, and relate the measures of the amount of wave energy transfer to wave height and measures of the objects striking the water (e.g., weight, distance fallen to strike the water).
