Description:
The purpose of this lesson is to bring students to an
understanding of the connection between the convection currents within the mantle of the earth and the moving of Earth's plates. A connection to lessons at previous grade levels on the rock cycle and important background knowledge on rocks is integrated with a pre-assessment and vocabulary exercise. A teacher demonstration and/or group
activity model the movement of materials through the mantle of Earth. The post assessment addresses the concepts and vocabulary used and demonstrated in the lesson.
