Understanding the Holocaust: Issues of Identity, Science and Genocide

Description:
Current events continue to reflect a global society that uses fear, hate and prejudice to control the masses. A key component behind these tools of manipulation is the social construct of race and racial identity. Often misconstrued as a scientific construct based on supposed commonalities of physical characteristics, "race-science" represents the social manufacturing of "scientific" evidence in order to designate a hierarchy of the species. In this lesson, students will analyze, discuss, and evaluate the scientific validity of the Nazis' use of racial typing to promote a political agenda of genocide.
