Context Clues Challenge
Context Clues Challenge
Description:
This activity is built around the Common Core standard RL 9-12.4: "Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text." In groups of four, students write down definitions. They're not allowed to use dictionaries (for those younger than 25, dictionaries are those things with pages listing words and bound by a hard cover), glossaries, dictionary.com or any other reference. They're only allowed to use each other and the literary work in which the word appears. They must use context clues. Each team compares definitions. The team with the highest point total at the end wins the game, the A+, and becomes the kings and queens of context clues.
