Description:
This lesson plan includes five probability experiments that allow students to make predictions and compare theoretical probability to experimental probability. The lesson plan includes a PDF worksheet that students can use to record and reflect on the data that they collect through these activities. There are several extension questions and activities listed to expand on students' understanding of how experimental probability compares to theoretical probability; one of these activities utilizes a java applet for an adjustable spinner which demonstrates how increasing the number of trials will bring the theoretical and experimental probabilities closer together.
