Description:
This unit plan spanning two weeks of activities gives children an opportunity to explore tessellations and see how they connect to other subject areas. Students explore which shapes tessellate; look for examples of tessellations in their environment; and develop methods for creating tessellations using various transformations (slides, rotations, and reflections). The culminating experience for the unit is to make a class quilt.
