This resource comes from Figure This!. Figure This! is a public awareness program funded by the National Science Foundation and the U. S. Department of Education. The "Figure This!" site provides a growing set of challenges intended to promote students' problem solving ability, and students will enjoy its design lively and colorful, and simple to navigate. While the site is intended for middle grades students, elementary students will also enjoy exploring this challenge, in which they are asked to look at which letters look the same when turned upside down, providing an interesting introduction to symmetry. A number of resources are provided that students can use if they get stuck. The Getting Started section helps students get on the right track. But if they get, stuck there are hints and a section giving possible solutions. There are also related questions for them to try out their knowledge, interesting background information, and other resources. The activity can also be printed out in "PDF" format that preserves the attractive layout of the page.
