NCTM: Teaching Children Mathematics

Description:
This site comes from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Teaching Children Mathematics (TCM Online) presents the full table of contents and selected articles from the hard-copy journal of the same name produced by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. It is a "forum for the exchange of ideas and a source of activities and pedagogical strategies for mathematics education pre-K-6. It presents new developments in curriculum, instruction, learning, and teacher education; interprets the results of research; and in general provides information on any aspect of the broad spectrum of mathematics education appropriate for pre-service and in-service teachers." Since this is an official journal of NCTM, its articles undergo a rigorous review process and so are generally of very high quality. The articles range from opinion pieces on current issues to articles describing research (such as Math Curse or Math Anxiety?) to articles describing a possible source for activities based on culture (such as Elastic Geometry and Storyknifing: A Yup'ik Eskimo Example) to activities addressing particular concepts, such as the sum of the angles of a triangle (Experimenting with Crazy Cars).
