People Patterns Grades Pre-K-2 Algebra
People Patterns Grades Pre-K-2 Algebra
Description:
This site comes from The Annenberg/CPB partnership which was created to improve K-12 education through the use of the Web and digital satellite technology. The study of patterns is an important underlying foundation for later study of algebra, and indeed for all of mathematics. This on-line activity invites students to try to figure out who should come next in a line of people, based on some combination of attributes (such as height, color of clothes, etc.) Changing the number of people who are initially given can vary the difficulty. You will definitely want your students to start with the easiest version, as the more difficult levels can be very challenging, even for adults! The ability to view comments from other problem-solvers is a big plus. Additional challenges can be found by clicking on the navigation bar at the top of the window, but this was a favorite for young children.
