This resource is comprised of three lesson plans for use with primay source materials, namely the American Slave Narratives and the American Folklore Collection. The New Deal Network has selected seventeen of these narratives to provide teachers and students with a useful sample of the kind of work undertaken by the Federal Writer's Project. The three lesson plans included here are: An Examination of Interviews from the American Slave Narratives and the American Folklore Collection; Generating a Student-created Document Based Question; and Comparing and Contrasting the Individual Experiences of African Americans in the 19th Century.
