Freedom Hero: Sojourner Truth

Description:
MY HERO is an interactive site made for the entire family. At the heart of this Internet site is the belief that there are and always have been, good people and positive role models in every aspect of our daily lives. Sojourner Truth was such a person. Born a slave and later freed following the New York Anti Slavery Law of 1827, she became an advocate for both women's rights as well as blacks' rights. In spite of her minimal education she was a great orator, and made a lasting impression on those with whom she came in contact. She actively supported the black troops during the Civil War, and helped get the government to give them land. She continued to travel and preach until her death at the age of 84.
