Description:
The focus of this lesson is factors affecting the density of seawater. In this activity, students will be able to explain the relationship between temperature, salinity, pressure, and density; the concept of sigma-t; and how density differences can affect the distribution of organisms in deep-sea environments. Given CTD data, students will be able to calculate density and construct density profiles of a water column.
