America's Heritage: An Adventure in Liberty (High School Edition) Pt. 2: American Heritage Themes (NCSS version)
Description:
Students have the opportunity to define, understand, and examine the four underlying, philosophical themes of the AHEF curricula -- Freedom, Unity, Progress, and Responsibility -- that are important for citizens individually and for our nation as whole. The lesson includes related quotes by well-known figures, a think-aloud, a poster activity, and a collaborative analytical assignment in response to the preface essay (see introduction). America's Heritage: An Adventure in Liberty is a free K-12 curriculum for teachers of the humanities and social sciences. Teachers are provided these resources as a supplement to school resources as they deliver instruction focused on developing an understanding and teaching of our nation's factual and philosophical heritage to promote Freedom, Unity, Progress, and Responsibility among our students and citizens.
