Students learn about the value and meaning of the U. S. flag as a symbol of freedom and unity by examining the various elements of the flag as well as the official uses of and ways to display the flag. The lesson includes a copy of the U. S. Federal Flag Code, a group vocabulary and analysis activity, and a KWL chart. America's Heritage: An Adventure in Liberty is a free K-12 curriculum for teachers of the humanities and social sciences. Teachers are provided these resources as a supplement to school resources as they deliver instruction focused on developing an understanding and teaching of our nation's factual and philosophical heritage to promote Freedom, Unity, Progress, and Responsibility among our students and citizens.
