The desire of the Armenians to have books written in its language and not only in Greek or Syrian was so great that in the Fifth century numerous religious books were translated and written, historical or scientific. The Gospel de Etchmiadzin (989) is most famous of the illustrated manuscripts of Matenadaran and also most known by the specialists.
