UCLA Asia Institute: Asia in the K-12 Curriculum
UCLA Asia Institute: Asia in the K-12 Curriculum
Description:
Asia is enormous, its history long, its cultures rich, and its contemporary importance unquestioned. So that our youth will better understand this region and its relationship to their lives and our nation's future, the California State Board of Education mandates the study of Asia's and its evolving relationships with other peoples and places. The UCLA Asia Institute is working with other UCLA units and several Los Angeles County school districts to train secondary school teachers in a) the state-mandated integration of Asia-related topics into the social studies and language arts curriculum and b) the use of internet technologies to further engage students in the acquisition and processing of information and in communicating the results of their research. This Web site offers a variety of resources to support the study of Asia in the K-12 curriculum.
