Buddhism

Description:
This mini unit should be used as a transition from a study of India, to an in depth study of China. Elements of Chinese culture, history and geography will be incorporated into in depth study of Buddhism to facilitate this transition. Students will first study the life of Siddhartha and his quest for peace and enlightenment. This will be followed by vocabulary development and Buddha's main teachings, including the Four Noble Truths, the Five main precepts, and the Eight Fold Path. This material will be augmented by a lecture on the spread of Buddhism and its impact on other Asian cultures. Students will also spend significant time mapping physical and political features of Asia.
