Mysteries of Deep Space - Classroom Activity: A Classical & Relativistic Trip to a Black Hole
Mysteries of Deep Space - Classroom Activity: A Classical & Relativistic Trip to a Black Hole
Description:
To meet the instructional objectives for this activity, students will: 1. apply motion calculations involving distance, velocity, acceleration, and time, 2. apply Newton's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Laws of Motion, 3. apply the concept of density to manipulate quantities of mass, volume, and density, 4. apply calculations of circular motion, 5. apply calculations of universal gravitation including tidal effects in the intense gravitational field of a black hole, 6. apply calculations of escape velocity, 7. apply calculations of time dilation in a high-velocity object. The lesson plan includes the following features: - Time Needed for Activity, - Target Grade Level, - Background Information/Procedure, - Questions, - Extensions, - Web Resources.
