The Living Edens - Etosha: How Many Birds Would It Take to Keep a Jackal Alive?

Description:
In this lesson, students visit Etosha National Park in northwestern Namibia to study predator-prey relationships. Students will: - understand the necessity of large families in some wild populations - participate in an activity that relates food supply to population - understand the nature of competition between predators - evaluate the effect of increasing and decreasing food supplies on animal populations. The lesson provides a list of materials needed, estimated time, teaching strategies, and assessment recommendations, as well as extensions/adaptations. Relevant national standards in science are also noted.
