Description:
This lesson studies the African Ostrich and the Rhea, both very large birds about the size of man. Students will: - identify the African Ostrich from PBS' "The Living Edens: Namib" and the Rhea from PBS' "The Living Edens: Patagonia" programs - compare and contrast the two species in regard to appearance and behavior - compare and contrast the biomes in which the two species exist, one in Namib and one in Patagonia. The lesson provides a list of materials needed, teaching strategies, assessment recommendations, and extension/adaptation suggestions.
