The American Experience - MacArthur
The American Experience - MacArthur
Description:
The video and Web site explore the controversial career of General Douglas MacArthur, a decorated and admired officer during WWII who was fired by President Harry Truman in 1951. Students are invited to participate in a variety of activities: discussions of heroism and "great men," WWII events in the Phillippines and Japan, Japanese culture during and after the war, and the effect of nuclear weapons on the post-WWII world. Students use primary source documents to debate whether MacArthur's career was a success or failure.
