The West - The Transcontinental Railroad
Using a variety of maps, photos, paintings, government documents and personal diaries, students assess the need for a transcontinental railroad in the 1860s. Working in groups, students also research and write about how the advent of the railroad affected different groups of people, including entrepreneurs, settlers, immigrants, and ethnic minorities.
