titleCommemorate the United Nations' Founding
descriptionIn the spring of 1945, representatives of 50 nations met in San Francisco to draft the Charter of the United Nations. On Oct. 24, 1945 that charter went into effect. Since then, the United Nations has worked to fulfill its primary purpose - maintaining world peace. The organization also provides a place for nations to promote their views and work through conflicts nonviolently. Standing as a symbol of international unity, the United Nations allows countries to cooperate to solve problems like poverty, disease and pollution. This resource provides information to help students understand how they are tied to the rest of the world.
